So, I've been gravitating toward self help books and all of them kinda tell me the same things, find passions and go after them, exercise in ways that you feel will work for you, eat the food you want to but don't eat too much. I feel like I get that, but it never really translates into concrete things about what I can do right now to take steps on my self-help journey. Then, on a whim, I picked up "The Little Book of Self-Care for Sagittarius" by Constance Stellas. I thought it would be a really silly book, a little fun mumbo-jumbo, but it weirdly struck a cord with me. It has a run-down of what a Sagittarius is like, and how they interact with the world. As I don't know much about astrology, I appreciated the explanation. It also explains what self care is and the types of self-care: physical, emotional, social, spiritual, and practical. I realized that while I practice some of these, I don't go nearly as far as I need to.
So I've decided to make some small goals for this summer to get me started:
- Physical
- Exercise: Start a 10 minute work-out when I wake up, and go to bed.
- Diet: Start intermittent fasting.
- Hygiene: Create a real morning and evening routine and stick to it.
- Emotional: Start Meditating and Journaling.
- Social: Repair a special relationship, and start hanging out with friends on weekends, and during the week nights.
- Spiritual: Start going to church again, and find a good church community.
- Practical:
- Declutter my room.
- Keep a good calendar.
- Start saving money.
As this summer progresses, I'd like to have a good start on these goals, and I'll write posts on each of these goals. Hopefully by having this blog, I can hold myself responsible, and hopefully succeed. I have a really hard time motivating myself to actually meet goals that I set.
The second part of Stellas's book is concrete suggestions on what to do, like "relax in velvet", "encourage healthy liver function with berries", or "subscribe to a podcast". I want to start doing these things that a Stellas suggests for Sagittarius in particular. If I can do one or two of these things a week, I think I'll start thriving.
